Sunday in Marseilles.
Théodor di Ricco
Well, the festival is over. Four intense days of performance art. It finished with a free-for-all happening at the Cours Julien. The Ornic'Art crew had blocked off a part of the Cours Julien where there is a market during the day with plastic and cloth. There was only one entrance to the area closed off. We were a part of a bigger festival which incorporated a large area surrounding our space. Throughout the four hours between 19:00 and Midnight, various performances took place.
Sylvette Babin took a thin piece of paper, applied it to her face and added color. She did this throughout the evening and had a collection of works on paper which she laid out in front of her.
I asked people to take a photo of me. I wrote their name on a piece of paper. On the front of the paper was a request that they send me the photo per email and an explication of what performance art is.
Half Swiss had installed themselves
around a table where they invited the public to participate in a discussion about art. They passed out beers liberally and actually asked and took notes about the conversation.
Edwige walked backwards.
Stephanie, Jack, Natacha Musléra and Half Swiss scratched a polyurethane board until there was nothing left but white particles on the ground.
Jean-Pierre made a place for a siesta, offered Pastis and told stories to those who lounged.
And there many others who also participated;
Carlos Pina
Natacha Musléra
Orion Maxted
Les Tas
Astrid Lefèvre
Tristan Treins
BBB johannes Deimlin, Dariusz Fodczuk...
The day started at Cours Julien at 15:30 with a performance from Ornic'Art. They are quite a large group incorporating a lot of props and technical support. Working with the theme of decontamination and de-programation, they set about cleaning themselves and the enviroment. Their action is a combination of performance, dance, living and street theatre. It was quite a spectacle. They used the fountain at the Cours Julien and the place in front. At one point a group had bars of soap attached to their bodies and they laid on the ground and scrubbed as two other members with garden hoses attached to their bodies created a living fountain. The entire action lasted an hour and it was filled with well co-ordinated theatrical movements. I was impressed. They are a dynamic group.
