Le Point Bascule Marseilles
Theodor di Ricco
As I was typing the text for the blog, my boyfriend Helmut and a mutual friend Oliver arrived from Berlin at the atelier of Ornic'Art. We have not seen each other for a week. We sat, talked, drank coffee, smoked cigarettes and blabbed out all that we have seen and experienced. Much to tell and along comes Orion Maxted another performance artist from Brighton. The last remaining, Carlos Pina arrives today.
Last night, at 18:30 the performances started at La Friche.
Edwige Mandrou laid 2000 eggs.
Three red maidens picked up the eggs and
put them into their skirts. They delivered them to Edwige standing on a platform behind a large wire cornucopia also dressed
eggs into the basket. A sound track played interviews from women about their relationships with men and later the sound of heavy breathing. It process was going to take a couple of hours.
During this period in the courtyard of La Friche,
Sylvette Babin taped her fistswith red cabbage and punched the a wall, singing a french song. She continued to punch and sing until the cabbages fell off. It was very physical.
S.Echenberg and Jack Bover
played a white foam board hooked up to a microphone They were once again dressed in black. It looked good as the white particles of foam began to fly off as the both scratched the surface.
The last perfor-
mance was a repeat from Les Tas who played Michael Jackson on a large speaker that they displayed at sixth floor window before pushing it out the window, crashing on the the ground, The whole action lasted not more than three minutes.
These three performance took place during the time the red maidens filled the cornucopia. We arrived to watch the last remaining eggs being delivered, Edwige then lifted her skirt, exposed her bare ass and proceeded to smash the eggs. The juice flowed down a five meter long red cloth that was laid out in front of the cornucopia..
The next series of performances took place in the gallery space two floors below the atelier space of Ornic'Art. There was an interactive video installation from
Ornic'Art of all the participants of the festival.
Les Fermières Obsédées
did a performance which was one of the best critics on the current Anglo-American war situation. Dressed in their costumes them wore the day before, they entered the space carrying white flags. The three women waved and paced them in stands. They mounted a small platform, dipped their hands in a bucket of red paint. The struck various victory poses as a soundtrack played national hymns. The took wads of dough out of their blouses and wiped their red hands, throwing them on the ground in front of them. The finished their performance by encouraging the public to clap at their bloody success.
The final performance of the evening
Johannes Deimling and Dariusz Fodczuk took the piss out the Fluxus performance art of the seventies. They did the traditional table chopping, destruction performance which was advance in it's critic of art at the time. They added the element of audience participation, requesting them to sing;
I do performance and that is super.
The evening finished with a meal at the Ornic'art atelier. Helmut had a chance to visit with the entire family and to make a few new acquaintances. I only got to spend one evening with Helmut. He hit the road early in the morning. Tonight I do my second performance at Le Point Bascule.
